Writing From the Depths

I suppose some people get to work off the top of their head. Keep it light, fluffy, and fun. That’s not the way my writing works.

My writing comes up from my toenails.

It aches and snakes it’s way to my gut where I treat it like I do nausea. I will do anything to keep from throwing up. Anything. I will chase any distraction, until inevitably my body takes over and pushes this bitter memory up and out.

I hate the process but I always feel better when it’s done.

If you're a reader here, this is the room you're walking into. Nothing in this space comes from the top. Everything here cost something to get out. You will feel that.

It's just how the truth moves through me, slowly, reluctantly, and always from the bottom up.

If you're a writer and you just recognized yourself in that description, welcome. Share your writing from the depths and people will trust what you write when it finally arrives.

Fluffy and fun scales. Depth leaves an impression.

I have decided in my week 3 of September Sabbatical that I will only write when it hurts. Otherwise what's the point.

I want to feel warm and fuzzy, too. And I have learned that the warmth only shows up after the heave. You can’t manufacture the exhale. It comes after the body takes over and the bitter thing finally gets expressed.

So that's the deal here. I go all the way down first. And whatever surfaces after that, that's what I give you.

All of it. Bottoms up. Paid subscribers get all of it, the full pour, nothing held back. Join me down here.
